September 27, 2012

THIS Sunday: The Only Thing That Counts - We're moving right along in our study of Galatians. We'll pick up at 2:15-21 this week.

Ktizo Gallery & Nook Auction - After a successful Ktizo Gallery event, in which Reyna Elizabeth's artwork brought in $335 for Gotitas de Amor, our gallery space will once again be vacant. It is time for you to bring in your artwork: paintings, drawings, photographs, etc. Please bring in your artwork starting NOW! Remember, there is also a space for poetry and other writing. Stay tuned to North St. News for a calendar of events and rotation of artwork/artists in the Ktizo Gallery. - Sarah

Wednesday Evenings - We had another great conversation in our discussion on the book Public Jesus: Exposing the Nature of God in Your Community. While anyone can read the book, you don't have to in order to join the conversation. Bring your dinner at 6:00 PM or come around 7:00~ for discussion.

SAVE THE DATE - Guatemala Partnership Faith Promise Weekend - The partnership committee had a great meeting last Monday. As but one part of the partnership, the church board is planning to provide monthly support to the church, La Iglesia Vida Abundante to continue the ministry to older children that's been happening through Gotitas de Amor.

Yes...we will need your help. We will be having a Faith Promise weekend with a dinner on Saturday, October 27th (tentatively at 5:30) and a special worship gathering on Sunday morning (the 28th). Rev. Lora Wooster will speak to us at both times. Plan on joining us this weekend and would you begin praying now about how you might be involved in the partnership.

We did not make further plans for our own next trip to Guatemala because...instead...we are hoping a committee from their church can come to us! We are in the early stages of working this out, but have hopes that they might come to visit in a couple of months!

Your Spanish Word of the Week - Since there seemed to be an issue with North St. News the last few weeks, how about a review this week?  The words you may have missed: otoño, which means "autumn" and asociación, which means "partnership."

"Piercing the Darkness" Convention - We want to invite you to come with us to hear Dr. Sam Vassel speak to the New England District Church of the Nazarene on November 10 in Nashua, NH at our district Sunday School Convention. Dr. Vassel is the pastor of our Bronx Bethany Church of the Nazarene (in NYC) and is a wonderful speaker. The day costs $20 (by Oct. 10) and includes lunch, but let us know if money is the only factor that would keep you from going. Our own Ed DiSante is the registrar for the event. Send him an email with questions or if you'd like to go.

  • This Saturday, September 29, all are invited to help the Vandervort family move! We will meet at 9:00 at their "old" house in Quincy (126 Willow Street).
  • Can you believe that All Hallow's Eve is less than seven weeks away? As we're planning ahead to light up the neighborhood again this year, would you wash and set aside you clear plastic gallon milk/juice jugs again? Just bring them to the chapel and place them in the kitchen. Thanks!

Sunday School (10:30 AM~)

THIS Sunday - New Sermon Series on Galatians - This Sunday we are beginning a new sermon series on Galatians. We will be in the letter for several weeks. A great way to prepare for worship would be to read the whole letter (or even listen to it!)

Ktizo Gallery & Nook Auction - Our first showing for the Ktizo Gallery & Nook last Sunday went very well. We met several people interested in what we are doing including friends from other Nazarene churches, local artists, neighbors, and the manager of another nearby gallery.

The event kicked off a weeklong auction for all of Reyna Elizabeth's work. All proceeds will go to benefit Gotitas de Amor in Guatemala City. The auctions end at 6:00 PM on Sunday, so if you were planning on bidding, you'll want to get it in soon. Go and bid now! If nothing else, you can make a winning bid to support Gotitas and give the pastel drawing away. (Christmas isn't far away!)

Wednesday Evenings - We had a great conversation for the first week of our discussion on the book Public Jesus: Exposing the Nature of God in Your Community. While anyone can read the book, you don't have to in order to join the conversation. Bring your dinner at 6:00 PM or come around 7:00~ for discussion.

Guatemala Partnership Meeting Monday Night - We have heard back from Pastor Pedro in Guatemala City. We have some important decisions to make and have a meeting on Monday (9/17) at 7:00 PM in the Newell Gathering Room. We would value your input.

Your Spanish Word of the Week - Our word this week is asociación, which means "partnership."

  • Dr. Dick Fish will be on the radio in October! Mark your calendars now to listen on October 27 at 10:00 AM on 590 AM. Dick will be talking about Christian Debt Relief. More information about this new show put on by Eastern Nazarene College is here
  • Did you know that the older children's Sunday School class has begun Children's Bible Quizzing? This is an exciting way for the kids to learn the scriptures as our teachers use illustrations and lessons to bring the passages to life. Pray for our kids as they learn!
  • Can you believe that All Hallow's Eve is less than seven weeks away? As we're planning ahead to light up the neighborhood again this year, would you wash and set aside you clear plastic gallon milk/juice jugs again? Just bring them to the chapel and place them in the kitchen. Thanks!

THIS Sunday -
North Street Community Orchestra! Bring your musical instrument! No matter what level of expertise, bring your instrument so we can worship together as an orchestra.  If you require a music stand and are able to bring one, please do so! Don't play an instrument? There will be a handful of percussion instruments available. We also still need some people to be singing! Come prepared for a fun, unique time of community worship. Pastor Jeremy will be preaching from Ephesians 2:1-10.

Ktizo Gallery & Nook showing! - While we've had the art work of Reyna Elizabeth up for several weeks now, we will have an open showing from 2:00-4:00 PM. This will also kick-off a week-long online silent auction for the individual pieces of Reyna's collection. All proceeds will go to benefit Gotitas de Amor.

Future Sundays- Beginning next week we will be in a series on the book of Galatians. Go ahead and immerse yourself in this book right now in preparation of the series.

Wednesday Evenings - As you think about setting your schedule for the Fall, consider joining us on Wednesday evenings for Community Dinner (6:00 PM) and Corporate Study (7:00 PM). It's a great way to stay connected throughout the week, to share in fellowship, to pray for one another, and to stay in the Word together. We are reading and discussing the book Public Jesus: Exposing the Nature of God in our Community. We will begin with chapter 1 this coming Wednesday (9/12). You can read that chapter by clicking here. In addition, here is a video that gives a taste of the videos from Pastor Tim Suttle. Let me know if you'd like a copy of the book ($13 for those who are able, but don't worry about it if you aren't - just let me know). You do not necessarily need to have read the book/chapter each week to participate in discussion. All are welcome!

Your Spanish Word of the Week - A word to go along with our gallery showing on Sunday (see above!): pintura, meaning 'painting'.

Keep praying for our brothers and sisters in Guatemala City - Pastors Pedro and Vilma Sensente, Carlos and Lily Monterosso, La Iglesia de Vida Abundandte and Gotitas de Amor. We are working on our next trip (hopefully!), and have sent Pastor Pedro communication about a number of exciting things. We're waiting to hear back.

  • A note from Charlie DiSante on Missions Books: Do you know where your missionary book is? Bring it back on Sunday, after reading it, of course. That way, we can hand it off to someone who is waiting to read it. - Charlie
  • Rosalie Carlson has a new email address and would like us to share it with you, it is Edinbcountry389@gmail.com
  • In a facilities update, the oil tank in the parsonage basement began failing and had to be replaced immediately with a new tank.
