 May 9, 2013

This Sunday - This Sunday - the last prior to Pentecost - brings us to these passages. The passage from John 17 will particularly lead us as we consider oneness in Christ. Jesus' prayer here is powerful and well-known. His prayer isn't simply for oneness, but for his followers to be one "as he and the Father are one." We will reflect on this Sunday, considering how "oneness" as Jesus talks about it is not necessarily "sameness". I hope you can come! - Pastor Jeremy

The Shelter needs help this weekend! Every year, a portion of the food goods collected via the US Postal Service Canned Food Drive comes to Friends of the Homeless for distribution. On Saturday at 2:30 PM, we will be receiving and organizing it at the chapel. Your hands are needed! With many hands, it should be an easy process.

Sabbatical Period Update - If you have interest in hosting our interns for dinner a few times throughout the summer, contact Heidi Parker who will be helping set up a schedule to this end.

We have lots of people signed up for our all-church events to begin and end the sabbatical period: a trip to Georges Island on June 15 and a retreat on Labor Day weekend. We need to know if people are planning on either or both by the end of May. Be sure to sign up in the foyer of the chapel.

Labor Day Week Retreat: This retreat will wrap up the sabbatical period and will be taking place Aug. 30th through Sept. 2nd at the Craigville Retreat Center on Cape Cod. The cost for the weekend is as follows: $30 for adults, $10 kids 6-17 and 5 and under free. All meals will be provided and we have access to a private beach. It will be a great time to welcome back Pastor Jeremy and his family and to reflect on the whole summer together. Unlike our winter retreat we are responsible for bringing sheets and towels (couples will need double sheets, singles would need single sheets). Sheets and towels can be rented for an additional $10 for the whole weekend.  There is a sign-up sheet on the table in the foyer. E-mail or talk to Christina Duncan for more information regarding the retreat.

Lastly, we will have a sabbatical update and time of sharing at our May potluck in next week (5/19).

Guatemala Update and Spanish Word of the Week - While our brothers and sisters from Guatemala will not be able to visit us in June, keep praying for them and checking in at the Facebook Group page to say hello. Our word of the week is Pentecostés , which means, Pentecost.

Ktizo Nook & Gallery - Mark your calendars now for our next Ktizo event! This time, we will shift from the visual medium to an audible one. We are proud to announce that our own Angelica Wilson will be releasing a five-song EP in our own Ktizo Nook. Plan on coming on Saturday, June 8th at 2:00 PM. Congratulations, Angelica!

  • Congratulations to Angela and Eric Siegel who became Canadian Citizens this week!
  • Angelica Wilson is moving to North Quincy and needs assistance. She is moving the morning of Saturday, June 1st. If you are able to help, please let Angelica know via email. Thanks!
