North St. News: April 2012

Work Day @ Thaxter Park - This Sunday plan on staying after worship to help clean up the area around Thaxter Park, where several members of our church live just a hundred yards or so north of the chapel. As we strive to be a good neighbor as a church community, we'll be serving for a couple of hours doing yard work and more. So wear your outdoor work clothes and come prepared to be the Church.

CPR and First Aid Course - On May 5th from 9am to 1pm join us as Ed teaches us how to save a life! You can choose to become certified or not. Certification from the Red Cross will cost $35. Contact Christina for more details and to also confirm that you will be attending.

Gotitas de Amor Partnership- For our Partnership Trip to Gotitas de Amor in Guatemala we would ask folks to bring the following items for us to take along for the kids in the program: Los útiles escolares, crayones, plumas, etc siempre son buena ayuda para los chicos (school supplies-crayons, pens, etc. always are a good help for the children). Also general craft supplies as well.

Our sister church in South Weymouth (385 Ralph Talbot St.) invites any interested to hear Dr. John Wang speak on Sunday, April 29th at 6:00 PM. He is a medical doctor, an internist, and cardiologist who has practiced medicine since 1965. He is now an Adjunct Professor in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell. His church home is the Lowell Nazarene Church. He is the founder of Peruvian Children's Fund and is leaving very soon to fulfill the commitment of a 3-year medical project in Ancash Province, Peru. He has a wonderful story to tell. He has a passion to help the poorest of poor children in the Peruvian Jungles. His call is to provide for both physical and spiritual needs. He is coming seeking our prayer support as he walks this journey.

This Sunday This Sunday we will continue in the themes of resurrection & life by looking at John's words in his first epistle: "See what love the Father has given us! ...that we should be called children of God." (I John 3:1-7).

This Sunday - This Sunday (the second Sunday of the Easter season) brings us our Annual Meeting. I'll preach briefly from John. I'm looking forward to sharing some of my thoughts from this past year and things to come in the future. In addition, we'll select our church board for the next year and hear an important financial report from our treasurer, Jason Parker. I hope you can come. - Pastor Jeremy

This Sunday

Our annual Easter sunrise service will be at 6:10 AM followed by breakfast and an egg hunt for the kids. We will continue with our 9:30 worship gathering time with discussion after.

Good Friday
Once again, we will gather tomorrow on Good Friday for a Service of Shadows, reflecting upon Jesus' death 2000 years ago and what it means for us today. Come at 7:00 PM and we'll begin shortly after. I also want to invite you to watch a movie that has had an impact on my own life. Romero is an applicable movie to watch on Good Friday. It looks at the life and ministry of Oscar Romero who served the Church in El Salvador. The movie is rated PG-13 and I would forewarn all that it deals with difficult themes of violence and poverty and recommend it only for the mature.

In addition, El Salvador borders Guatemala, where we are sending a team in May to scope out a possible partnership with a ministry there. While they are two distinct countries with various differences, some of the themes in the movie will help shed light on life, culture, and historical aspects of Central America. Clothing Donations - There is now a 24-hour outdoor donation bin for the Salvation Army at the Friends of the Homeless of the South Shore, Rehoboth location. While recycling/donating clothes is always better than putting them in the trash, supporting the Salvation Army (a sister holiness denomination) is better than the for-profit boxes that have cropped up all over the place these days.
