April 25, 2013

This Sunday - Can you believe there are only two more Sundays until Pentecost? This week we will look at these passages. After a rough couple of weeks in the wake of events in Boston, this week's passages will be a fresh reminder of wonderful things of God: creation and new life (Flowers!), no more death (Spring!), and love (Christ's people!).

After worship & Sunday School, join us for...

Work Day @ Thaxter Park - We will again join our neighbors at Thaxter Park for pizza and a work day, helping them clean and spruce up their little corner of the world for the Spring. Bring work gloves/clothes with you to worship and plan on helping for a couple of hours. Can't lift or rake? Just come and hang out with the residents there while the rest of us do.

Sabbatical Period Update - Many things are on-going in preparation for the sabbatical period this summer. Candidates for our summer internship have been selected. We are currently working on ministry descriptions for them and hope to announce them to you soon! We will be asking for households in the congregation to host them for dinner throughout the summer. We really want to welcome them into our church community.

Mark your calendars with the various upcoming dates/events: Another presentation and update will occur during the potluck on May 19th. Details are coming together for the all-church outing to George's Island on Saturday, June 15th (boat tickets and lunch are all provided!). And don't forget the Labor Day Weekend Sabbatical Retreat that will wrap up the sabbatical period taking place Aug. 30th through Sept. 2nd (stay tuned for further details, but be prepared to let us know if you will be attending within the next month or so).

Guatemala Update and Spanish Word of the Week - It is with great disappointment that we announce that our brothers and sisters from Guatemala will not be able to visit us in June. While we wrote a really nice letter of invitation for the US Embassy, their visas were not approved. They are feeling disappointed too, so perhaps checking in at the Facebook Group page to say hello would be a good thing. Our word(s) of the week are estoy bien, which means, "I'm fine".

  • Need a place to live on the South Shore? Dawn Haskell needs a roommate! Awesome apartment in the Wollaston area of Quincy, right by ENC, close to the T and the beach. Three-bedroom apartment in a two-family home, washer and dryer in the basement, $400/month plus utilities. Great neighborhood and fun neighbors! Available now! :)
  • The children will have their last Bible quizzing meet this Saturday (4/27) at the Quincy Wollaston Church of the Nazarene.

April 20, 2013

April 20, 2013

Our apologies for a very delayed North St. News. This has been quite a week.

This Sunday - This Sunday is our annual celebration of the past and look to the future! (AKA "Annual Meeting"). We will hear a couple of remaining reports, sing, I'll preach a short homily, and we'll vote together. Our passages for the day are here.

This will be a unique Sunday for us. Annual Meeting alone would make it so, but in light of the events in Massachusetts this week, it will certainly be a different kind of Sunday. We will not have Sunday School, but will have a potluck (bring some food to share!). In addition, we will take some time during the potluck to honor Dana, Elise, & Hailey Parker as this is their last Sunday with us.

We will certainly pray in response to this past week and in hope of the future. I wrote some related thoughts on my website late last night if you'd like to read them. I hope to see you tomorrow. - Pastor Jeremy

Sabbatical Period Update - Many things are on-going in preparation for the sabbatical period this summer. Candidates for our summer internship have been interviewed and will be selected and announced soon.

Guatemala Update & Spanish Word of the Week - ¿cómo estás, which means, "how are you?". Continue to pray for the up-coming visit in June of six people (including Pastor Pedro) from La Iglesia del Nazareno de Vida Abundante. We will need help from all around in hosting and visitng with them during their trip here.

  • Bobbie Coletti is recovering from triple bypass heart surgery and doing very well and has been moved a rehab facility. Keep her in prayer.
  • Ryan Ardrey continues to have seizures and will go to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota for further evaluation in June. Pray for him, his wife, Thea, and all involved in trying to figure out what to do in this difficult situation.
  • Dana, Elise, & Hailey Parker have announced their transition, moving to Pennsylvania at the end of April. Pray for them as they have much to do before and after the move.
  • Need a place to live on the South Shore? Dawn Haskell needs a roommate! Awesome apartment in the Wollaston area of Quincy, right by ENC, close to the T and the beach. April 11, 2013

This Sunday - This being the third Sunday of Easter, we will continue to celebrate the Resurrection! We'll journey onward in the post-resurrection narrative of John's gospel. Here are all of our passages for Sunday.

The stories of Jesus after the resurrection are all beautiful pictures of his love for his disciples and this week's is no exception. We'll see him make breakfast on the beach for the tired and weary disciples and then charge Peter with an incredible responsibility. I'm looking forward to sharing out of this passage. See you Sunday! - Pastor Jeremy

Spring Clean-up and Breakfast - This Saturday April 13th, we will begin with breakfast (pot-luck style) at 8am before cleaning our way through the inside and outside of the chapel.  Come for all or part of the day. The more, the merrier (and the cleaner)!

Sabbatical Period Update - Many things are on-going in preparation for the sabbatical period this summer. Candidates for our summer internship are currently being interviewed. We hope to announce them soon. Mark your calendars with the various upcoming dates/events: Another presentation & update will occur during the potluck on May 19th. Details are coming together for the all-Church outing to George's Island on Saturday, June 15th (boat tickets and lunch are all provided!). And don't forget the Labor Day Weekend Sabbatical Retreat that will wrap up the sabbatical period.

Guatemala Partnership Update - We have written and sent notarized letters to Pastor Pedro for application to the US Embassy to come visit us this summer. While we are hopeful, this isn't a guarantee. Pray with us that this can all work out! Spanish Word of the Week - la resurreccion which is "the resurrection" (click the word for a link to its pronunciation).

Ktizo Gallery - We are looking forward to our public showing of Beth Restrick's artwork in the gallery this Sunday April 14th, from 4:00-6:00 PM. If you are willing to print and post our flier anywhere, please do so. You can access the flier here (there are also copies at the chapel). But if nothing else, please come to support Beth and as we welcome guests into our chapel.

Annual Meeting - Our annual meeting is two weeks from this Sunday (April 21). We will hear a report or two each week building up to it. There will also be a potluck that Sunday. Would you pray for our church in this time of year-end transition?

  • Bobbie Coletti is recovering from triple bypass heart surgery and doing very well. Keep her in prayer.
  • Ryan Ardrey had yet another severe seizure yesterday morning. Pray for him, his wife, Thea, and all involved in trying to figure out what to do in this difficult situation.

April 4, 2013

April 4, 2013

This Sunday - After a great start last Sunday, we come to the second Sunday of Easter this week. Our passages are here. We will hear from various witnesses in these passages. What does it mean to be a witness? Certainly being a witness to the Resurrection of Christ is different than it was for those who were present with Jesus, right? We will hear about these things on Sunday.

Also, for a high five, what is likely biblically inaccurate about the picture of Thomas' encounter with Jesus in the picture to the right? Let Pastor Jeremy this weekend know to receive your high five.

Guatemala Partnership Update - We have written and sent notarized letters to Pastor Pedro for application to the US Embassy to come visit us this summer. While we are hopeful, this isn't a guarantee. Pray with us that this can all work out! Spanish Word of the Week - Ha resucitado which is "He is Risen".

Spring Clean-up and Breakfast - This Saturday April 13th, we will begin with breakfast at 8am before cleaning our way through the inside and outside of the chapel.  Come for all or part of the day. The more the merrier and the cleaner!

But this weekend (on Saturday, 4/6), Beth will be participating in the South Shore International Festival right in downtown Hingham (info here). We will have a couple of her paintings displayed downtown while Beth works "live" on a painting as well. It would be great for her to have company! If you are available and willing to stand with her and hand out fliers on Saturday, let Pastor Jeremy know.

Annual Meeting - Our annual meeting is two weeks from this Sunday (April 21)! We will hear a report or two each week building up to it. There will also be a potluck that Sunday.
